Three Rivers 2009 :: Results and Pics

Early this Sunday over 400 gig rowers descended on Saltash for the first big event of the 2009 gig racing calender, ‘Three Rivers’ run by Caradon Gig Club.

As an early morning mist cleared the Tamar river, 32 ladies crews set out for the first race of the day. Falmouth took an early lead pushing hard against the ebb tide, Caradon attacked half way up the first leg but Falmouth pushed on and rounded the first mark with a good lead on Caradon and Mounts Bay. These positions held and Falmouth finished 20 seconds ahead of Caradon in a time of 49.10.

With crews pushing for the starboard end of the line the mens start saw several crews clashing oars as they fought for room. With Fowey taking the lead the front pack fought hard towards the first mark until Caradon and Mounts Bay began to stretch out a lead on Fowey, Falmouth, Helford and Rock.  Caradon rounded the second mark with a convincing lead on Mounts Bay and held this until they finished 30 seconds ahead in a time of 46.58.
