Debbie Rendle Memorial Race :: Invite

CRA- Debbie Rendle Memorial Race

We would like to invite you to the annual Debbie Rendle Memorial Race, which will take place on Sunday 25th April 2009.

We will be starting the race as usual, from the tidal barrier at Truro and finishing at the Pandora Inn, Restronguet. Please note that the bottom of the slip is very muddy so launching may be awkward. As in previous years the race will be run on a handicap basis and in order to the beat the receding tide we need to hold the Coxs’ meeting at 3pm, for a 3.30pm start.

We have obtained permission from the relevant bodies for parking at the car park adjacent to the start. Please make sure you leave your trailers out of the way of others parking there. Parking for boat trailers has also been arranged at Restronguet on the adjacent pier.

I have enclosed a copy of the rules and entry form, please fill in one form per boat and return by 10th April 2010 either by email or post.

Please could all entrants ensure that they are adequately covered for insurance purposes. The entry fee per rower is £2.00, cheques can be made payable to Cornwall Rowing Association.

We look forward to seeing you.

Three Rivers 2010 :: Invite

Three Rivers 2010 :: Invite

The Three Rivers Gig Race is run by Caradon Gig Club and takes place on March 7th this year at Saltash. Important : deadline for entries was 26th Feb -- now passed.  SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF POST

The Coxes meeting will take place at 09:15 a.m. at the Sailing Club, with the Ladies race starting at 10:00 a.m. prompt.  As in other years, the Mens Race will take place after the Ladies, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

All races will be run under CPGA rules and all gigs must carry a working VHF radio.  Gigs can be unloaded at the slipway opposite the Boatman Pub.

The presentation will take place in the Sailing Club following the racing, where food and drink will be available.

If your Club is planning to attend the Three Rivers Race, please can you send an email to stevelin18@talktalk.net by 1st March 2009, informing them how many gigs you will be bringing and the number of crews (mens and ladies).

Caradon Gig Club

This endurance race is around 6 miles (50 min) long and passes through the Tamar, Tavy & Lynher rivers. As a very rough estimate Mens crews can expect to finish in 40 -- 50 minutes and ladies crews under an hour.  Tide is a big factor on this race, both mens and ladies crews will start with an ebb tide against them in the channel, the course (See chart below) follows this deep water to the first mark before turning to Starboard into the shallower mouth of the Tavy and the bridge. Rounding the second mark to port a short leg will take you to the third mark which again you leave to port before turning with the tide and heading back to the bridge. The bridge is about two thirds of the way to the fourth and fith marks (At the mouth of the Lynher) which you round to port before turning back into the tide for a final sprint back up the river towards the bridge. The tide will be stronger for the mens teams than the women as they set off mid tide.

Please note: This is all estimated times and distance and assumes the same course as 2007.

UPDATE FEB FEB 28

Due to the large number of entries we have received this year, we would very much appreciate your co-operation in respect to the following:

  • Gigs will be unloaded from both the Brunel Slipway and the slipway opposite the Boatman Pub.  Caradon club members will be on hand to direct you to the appropriate slipway and to help you unload.
  • Please can Clubs closer to us, i.e. within an hour’s travelling distance, arrive as soon as possible.
  • Please could Club’s further afield, arrive by 8.45 a.m. at the latest to unload.
  • All Club’s must register their crews on arrival and before the coxes meeting.  Please report to the Sailing Club to do this.
  • The Coxes meeting will be at 9.15 a.m. prompt with the Ladies Race starting at 10.00 a.m. prompt.  If you are not ready, we will not wait for you.  The mens race will follow the ladies, and take place at approximately 11:00a.m..
  • Due to the high number of entries, there will be two line ups for both the ladies and mens race as well as berths (berth sheets will be given out at registration and/or cox’s meeting)  The second ‘heat’ in each race will be started approx 30 seconds behind the first heat. Both heats will be timed.
  • Please remember that all timings are attached to the gig not the club.
  • The races will be started via radio.  All gigs MUST carry a working radio.
  • All crews must warm up the lower side of the bridge i.e. Sailing Club side, until called, by radio, to the start line.
  • Due to the number of gigs attending on the day, can we please ask that you label all of your trailers with the name of the gig and your club name, so that it is clearly visible, in order to make retrieval of your trailer after racing as easy as possible.

The presentation will take place in the Sailing Club, following the completion of the races, where food and drink will be available.

Thank you for your co-operation and we very much look forward to welcoming you to Saltash on the day for some good racing!  Lets hope the weather is as good as last year!

Kind regards.

Yours sincerely
Leanne Kent
Vice Chair
