Helford Head of River Race – results

A flat and fast race up to Gweek from the Helford River mouth with a nice following breeze. Always a hard race and very well attended this year by a variety of crews and boats from near and far, a pity one or two clubs couldn’t make it at the last minute and a great atmosphere for the whole day with well organised logistics at the finish.

The race is a pursuit race with crews being awarded a start time depending on the make up of the crew so there are no distict crew classes to worry about. First over the line takes one prize and there’s also a prize for fastest overall course time. The gigs track time was so close, just 1 second between the Dutch Crew in Helford and Flushing & Mylor’s Penarrow.

Skiffs - 1st Rapido (Helford), 2nd Patience (Helford), 3rd No41 (Rock)
Flashboats - 1st Thilly, 2nd No49 (Rock), 3rd No84 (Caradon)
Anarths - 1st Anton
Oyster Punt - 1st Cadgwith
Rubber Duck tenders – 1st Toby, 2nd Hutch (‘tho no-one saw them finish!)

Gigs – over the line results -

1st Golden Gear (Helford Ladies Vets), 2nd Kerens (Torridge), 3rd Merthen (Helford)

Helford Head of the river gig race

“Don’t forget there’s a BBQ and Cadgwith singers joining us for a sing song in the evening from 6pm if anyone isn’t able to race but would like to come along for a social!”

Also, a request that any trophy holders from 2008 could do with bringing the silverware from last year.
