Invitation

I would like to invite you to the 2010 Fal River GigRower Championships that will take place on June 11th, 12th & 13th in Falmouth.

Sponsored by the Greenbank Hotel and hosted by Falmouth and Flushing & Mylor Gig Clubs in association with GigRower the event will incorporate a full-on weekend of Gig Racing and parties to which all gig clubs are invited.

Make a weekend of it by taking advantage of special accommodation rates at the Greenbank Hotel and discounted food & drink at the Gyllyngvase Beach Café. Camping and guesthouse accommodation is also available here.

Saturday kicks off with the standard Tribute Series Race off Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, racing around a triangular course off the beach with heats for Mens A & B, Ladies A & B and Juniors (C crews welcome to take part in a race straight after the B crews but you’ll need an extra boat for them).  This will lead into the GigRower Sprint Championships later in the afternoon with a series of short, straight sprints finishing off the beach, with the final expected to take place just after six o’clock with an expected 1,000 plus spectators.  Later that evening we are laying on live music, entertainment and a prizegiving in Falmouth which will go on until the early hours.

A late start on Sunday with a fun pursuit race across to St Mawes with times seeded from the day before, in St Mawes we plan to lay on jazz on the Quay as well as a hog roast and Skinners Bar.  Rowers can then return to Falmouth at their leisure and those not racing can join the festivities in St Mawes by using the regular St Mawes Ferry from Falmouth.

We encourage you to come for what we hope will be a cracking weekend, to help you out we have arranged discounted accommodation deals with many of the local B&Bs & Hotels and the rugby club are providing camping for £5 a night.
