Newquay Ladies Championships :: Saturday
An interesting start to this years Newquay Championships see’s crews going home having not compete.
The high swells rolling in as the tide dropped stopped crews from accessing the harbour safely. Crews caught out had to one by one feed into the harbour with the assistance of the RNLI and umpires, other crews had to “beach” the boats in breaking waves. The final crews left to try and land from race 15 of 16 had to moor the boats up safely at sea to fishing vessels, where they were then transported in by the RNLI.
Sunday will see the last remaining races of round one take place at 8am prompt with round two to follow immediately. The junior championships have been postponed due to the volume of races that need to take place tomorrow as well as the forecast conditions. Hopefully with an earlier start Newquay Rowing Club can beat the tide and get as much racing in before the tide drops to low again.
