Helford River Race 2012 – Invite

Helford River Gig Club “Head of the River Event”   NOTICE OF RACE

Hosted by the Helford River Gig Club on Saturday 13th October 2012

Venue:  Ferry Boat Beach, Helford Passage, Mawnan Smith.

Format

Start at the head of the Helford River and finish at Gweek Quay.

Race time Approx. 45 to 55 minutes.

Open to gigs, skiffs and flashboats.

Handicap system will allow any combination of crew to be put together from juniors to Supervets and all in between.

Limited spaces available on a first come basis.

The Helford River Gig Club will transport your boats up to the gig club at Gweek at the end of the race. We will be providing a bar and hot food, tea and cakes and prize giving which we hope all will be able to attend after the race.

Overnight camping is available and can be arranged on the day.

Coxes meeting——–1.30pm

First boat away approx. 3.00pm

Please bring a radio

Gigs to be delivered to the top of the hill above the Ferry Boat  where you will be directed down to the beach. Trailers will then need to be taken to Gweek to the Helford River Gig clubhouse. Please ensure gig trailers are clearly marked with boat/club name. Signs will be provided on how to get there. If you need to get back to row allow an hour turn around.

The plan after the race is for the rowers to head straight to the club to get fed and watered leaving Helford gig club members to bring your gig, on its trailer to you at the club house. Recommend that you do not arrive at the Ferry Boat, Helford Passage after 12pm earlier if possible.

Anybody wishing to leave their gig overnight to take part in the 2 Castles race the next day,  are welcome to do so.
