Weymouth Rowing Club would like to invite you to our Regatta, to be held on Saturday 30th June, endorsed by the CPGA, to be followed on Sunday 1st July 2012 by the “celebration of rowing on the South Coast in 2012” which is being organized by British rowing. This is part of the Weymouth line up for the “Spirit of the Sea Maritime Festival”.
There is camping available from Friday evening in the Nothe Gardens with parking (some discount available). There will be reserved spaces for trailers. Club members will be available to help you launch your boat.
The famous food tents will be ready for action from 7am for Breakfasts, with food available throughout Saturday and Sunday morning. We are conscious Clubs have to travel to row with us so we do try and look after you all. We can promise spectacular views of the racing, a Saturday night party and a weekend of Weymouth’s night life.
We intend to use the racing format devised by Henry Barlow, which was so successful at Lyme Regis last year. It will take the format of a series of sprints. The number of heats will depend on overall numbers, as will the number in each heat. If there are 12 in a heat, (for example) they will be divided into two. The first six will race in a straight line sprint, followed by the second six a few minutes after them. When finished, after a short break the return second leg will commence; the three slowest in both races will race the leg against each other, followed by the three fastest from the previous races against each other. The finals will be run between heat winners using the same format. The number who go through to the finals from each heat will, again depend on numbers attending.
You will notice that there is no junior racing on Saturday; however we hope that they would take part and enjoy the events on Sunday.
