Results :: North Devon Taw and Torridge regatta

On Sunday 24th of July Barnstaple and Torridge pilot gig clubs joined forces to hold
the first ever North Devon Taw and Torridge regatta on Instow beach.

A course was set extending from in front of the Boat House bar on the river Torridge
following along parallel to Instow beach around into the mouth of the river Taw
where two buoy turns were made taking the course back into the river Torridge for a
final turn back towards Instow beach for the finish line.

Instow beach made a very good viewing platform for all of the races and refreshments
were served by able volunteers from both clubs.
A good time was had by all competitors and on lookers with some nail biting racing
on show.

Along with the two host clubs the regatta was attended by Appledore, Bideford,
Bridport, Bude and Ilfracombe Pilot Gig Clubs.

Mens B – Torridge
Ladies B – Torridge
Mens A – Ilfracombe
Ladies A – Ilfracombe
Mens Vetrans – Ilfracombe
Ladies Vetrans – Ilfracombe
Juniors U14 – Bridport
Juniors U16 – Bridport
Mixed – Ilfracombe

Overall results:
1st Ilfracombe
2nd Torridge A & Appledore
3rd Bridport
4th Torridge B
5th Barnstaple
6th Bude & Bideford

Jon Ellwood (Chairman of Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club) said “There have been many
months of planning, organisation and hard work by both clubs which have culminated
in a very successful day. I hope that the North Devon Taw & Torridge Regatta will go
on to be a popular event within the Gig racing calendar”

bar and facilities and the Marine base for the use of the beach access road.
