Ralph Bird

On 2nd November, the gig builder Ralph Bird passed away.
The funeral service will be at Truro Cathedral at 12:30pm on Tuesday 10th November, this will be followed by committal at Penmount Crematorium for anyone who would like to attend.
The family have requested that there be no flowers but donations for Ralph’s chosen charity the Pinnacle-5
Trust.
Also at the request of Ralph they would like rowers to be in their club colours.
A true testimony to the far-reaching effect he has had reviving the traditions of gig rowing.

I never met Ralph personally, except on that extraordinary evening in September when we gathered outside his house in gigs to say thank you. I only got into gig rowing in the last 18 months, but am glad he had the foresight and skill that enabled so many to enjoy a sport that I can see will become a west country way of life for generations to come.

Sad news indeed, lots of memories of the early days from the very start and before. my sincere codolences to all of Ralphs family very fitting to have a gig named after him.
